With a shared commitment of promoting environmental sustainability and supporting local communities, The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), in partnership with Wells Fargo Philippines (Wells Fargo), is embarking on a mission to plant 15,000 mangrove seedlings in Barangay Lagadlarin, Lobo, Batangas through its biodiversity conservation initiative, One to Tree (RAFI OTT).

“RAFI OTT is thrilled to join hands with Wells Fargo to make a meaningful impact on both the environment and the local community. This project is especially special because it takes us to the coastlines of Batangas. Our recent expansion of operations into Luzon has been a source of great joy, as it allows us to have a positive impact not only in the mountainous regions but also along the coastal areas.” Anthony Dignadice, Executive Director of RAFI OTT expressed.

Working closely with partner people’s organization: Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan (SMMK), the project aims to provide additional support to the livelihoods of its 30 members and contribute to the preservation of the natural beauty of Batangas.

This project emphasizes the crucial role of mangroves in protecting coastal ecosystems, preventing soil erosion, and providing habitat for diverse marine species. Reforesting these areas will additionally create livelihood opportunities for members of the SMMK and support their efforts in protecting the environment.

RAFI One to Tree, known for its dedication to mitigate the negative effects of climate change through native tree growing, tirelessly engages local communities in environmental stewardship.

Embracing a community-centered strategy, RAFI OTT collaborates closely with local farmers and community partners to ensure the viability of the trees and support the community in their journey toward environmental and socio-economic advancement. As part of this approach, farmers will engage in capacity-building initiatives focused on seedling production, farm layout, site preparation, establishment, as well as monitoring and maintenance to ensure 80% survival rate of the seedlings.
